WWE.com Photo Gallery: Kilting It

WWE recently posted a gallery of Superstars wearing kilts. All hypotheses of potential commando-going aside, there's a beauty and grandeur in these pics we don't often get from WWE 'shoots. It's the result of the incredible backdrops: wild countryside, gothic gardens, traditional-architectured cities. The scenery gives these shots an otherworldy feel that's aesthetically inviting. It's unfortunate that the backdrops, as well as the kilts, are photoshopped. The pics have an assemblaged vibe that jars the otherwise magnificent artistic expression in the shots. I think simply using brand new photos of the ladies  -even with the same created backgrounds - would have enhanced these photos dramatically and possibly made them one of the top 'shoots of the year, due to the uniqueness of the "location". Note to the 'E: art os fine, but give us something real, too , please :). I have to give the styling department MASSIVE props for their role here: First: finding a deep mint tartan for Charlotte and a plum-berry one for Sasha really is quite spectacular! Nikki and Becky's red and its ilk are quite common among traditional clan colors, but the other two? Not so much. The plum is also beautifully coordinated with Sasha's gear - the color harmony is complex. the plum doesn't quite match the pink, but appears to at a quick glance, while the deeper blackberry shades echo the background of her gear and the yellow stripes of the tartan reprise the ringwear's yellow piping. It's beautifully chosen. The tartans are also a fun choice to utilize given the current popularity of plaid. Think of the color pairings: blend your black watch with emerald, or find a purple plaid and match it with pink! I'm also a fan of how most of the ladies have picked warrior-like poses or expressions; they befit the primal, tribal vibe. Becky's, in particular works fabulously well, conveying both fearlessness and doggedness. Along with her red hair, it calls to mind Merida of the Brave fable - a fitting comparison indeed.

Galleries seem to be a big thing in the Big Dub lately. They've decided to once again grace us with a collection of outtakes from various photoshoots. And why not - the first such release went over quite well. As with the original, there are some gems among the humdrums here. This shot of Eva Marie in her all-leather ensemble is as FIERCE as it gets. It's the studded bralette that does it, of course- holy metal, Batman! I love the way she rocks it, with the cropped vest left open above it. The way the metal stud reflect the neon lights of her light-saber props is icing on the cake. She also nails a second snap, an Americana-esque pairing of a knotted white tank and blue jeans. My favorite part ...well, ok parts :)..of this pic are her sultry pose (take notes, ladies!) and the silk oblong scarf in her hair! The silk piece is a gorgeous fabric and pattern and, despite the way it's casually wrapped around her curls, elevates the outfit. A girl could def get a lot of wear out of an accessory such as this! The next noteworthy snap comes from Lita, looking amazing in her trademark casual style. She updates her tank and baggy chinos with a floral-embroidered bomber jacket. The cranberry hade of her tank is absolutely stunning, and the way it's echoed by her lip color is superb. It's always a joy to get another taste of Lita's fashion sense! Renee's snap blasted on to my radar for obvious reasons - her insane pose (doing that in heels? Mad respect, girl...from a fellow stiletto-lover) and the amazing color of that dress! I am always sucker for clean yellow shades and this bright maize is just un-drab enough to meet my criteria. It's gorgeous on Renee! I'm a fan of the simple styling of this sheath as well; I do with the fabric were a touch heavier, though. I love how Renee grounded this sunshine-y color with black - it's a classic and powerful finish to yellow. To go a little further afield, you might consider navy, gray or metallic gold also. Then, there is Maryse, in her inimitably seductive zip bodysuit with corset belt and shimmering brassiere, paired with embellished OTKs. I really don't mind enjoying this outfit again - there's so much to savor! However, it was her pose that made me smile - it's a variation of her trademark talon-like gesture, this time aimed in support of the Miz. It's a slight metamorphosis, but infinitely enjoyable nonetheless. Lovely job, Maryse!

One amazing thing about fashion: it’s always there for you. It never lets you down. No matter what’s going on in your life, you can escape to fashion. It can be your solace when times are tough, your way to celebrate when they’re good and your  personal  form of expression and comfort every day in between.  And, we’ve got a special treat today! After a big drought of Knockouts’ fashion, we’ve got a boatload of it to review! So, settle in and enjoy :-)
When Gail was inducted into the Knockouts’ Hall Of Fame, Christy and Taryn were on hand to congratulate her. Gail looked aaaamazing in her coral gown with its daring front slit. I love this color on her, as well as the chic simplicity of this piece. The color and hint of sex appeal bring just enough drama to the look, which she completed with gorgeous metallic gold strappy sandals. Everything about this look is spot on.

Inspiration Board: Maryse - The Skirt That Wasn't

Ok, so when I first looked quickly at this shot of Maryse, my impression was that she was wearing a gray velvet maxi skirt and my fashion brain kind of went nuts. And then I realized -with a thud - that it was ....a blanket.  And no, Maryse isn't introducing white-sale fashion to the WWE masses; she was trying to keep warm at a recent concert (more on that & her companion's look later ;)). But, I am never one to let a style fantasy go to waste, so let's delve into the magical world of Maryse-Believe, where we imagine that she actually did wear a gray velvet maxi skirt and totally dressed it down. I love love finding less formal ways to wear dressy maxis and topping on with a graphic tee like Maryse is wearing would completely fit the bill. A leather biker jacket adds physical warmth and a pinch of toughness to a luxe (and uber-trendy) fabric like velvet. Not that this look requires velvet! Pleated metallic chiffon, any jacquard or damask, lace, even taffeta would fit this pairing equally well. When it gets too cool for graphic tees - or when you're feeling too sophisticated for one ;)- consider topping this with a slim-fitting turtleneck. For a modern but less urban vibe, try a military jacket instead of the motorcycle styling. (Feel free to go with sherpa-lined suede if ya got it!). Or, forego the jacket altogether and do a chunky knit sweater on top. Each of these takes the formal, elegant feel of the maxi and plays against it with more casual textures and styles. I have no doubt Maryse would finish off such a look with thoroughly forward-thinking ankle or mid-calf boots: a pointy-toed lace-up done in unexpected patent leather, a luxe suede version with an edgy geometric heel..or studded - I know she has a pair of studded booties in that copious closet of hers (I remember raving over them wildly). Then again, a pair of chunky-heeled minimalsit black leather ones would work too I hope this inspires you to try a look Maryse mostly didn't quite do...except in my head ;). Happy styling, darlings!

New WWE.com Photoshoot: Alexa - 24 Karat Magic

In Alexa's newest photoshoot, she tried her hand at being Goldust for a day. The adventure turned out quite well, and she threw a few fun curveballs in the mix for us. First, we got several snaps from a behind-the-scenes vantage point, showing how her make-up was done. It's an appropriate add considering how intricate Goldust's face art is. It has the added bonus of letting us see her pre-shoot outfit, which is nearly worth a 'shoot of its own and totally makes this into a two-for-one review :) #Bonus.  I love this cropped jacket with the lace sleeves - it melds an urban biker vibe with delicate femininity. Alexa set it against an all-black pairing of a cami and jeans, and then brought in a big dollop of glam with her crystal-accented belt and massive-stone necklace. the way the hematite and clear stone connect the black and white shades of the clothing is spot on. I would likely lean toward finishing this look with suede OTK boots. Now, on the 24 karat side of things, girlfriend nailed Goldy's feather-edged lamé robe and gold satin gloves. The long, blonde hair she is already naturally endowed with.  So, basically, it comes down to a pose-n-expressions thing and she rocks those as well, giving us a rendering of the Dustman's trademark scowl, a blown kiss and a moment or two of hauteur. While current Superstars dressing up as past Superstars isn't my very favorite type of set , since it tends to restrict the fashion choices ;),  I'm won over by the BTS outfit which helps address that concern. And I think Alexa did a fantastic job recreating the Goldust character! (Aside: with her penchant for golden everything, it occurs to me that this would have been a great persona for Mandy to reprise #RandomThoughtDuJour.

FashionHap: End Sept/Early Oct'16 - Return Of The Bellas

The flawless fashion was still raging strong as September came to a close. Lana slayed at Olia Zavozina's birthday party in a being knit dress which she paired with patent leather mid-calf boots. She tossed a classic biker jacket over her shoulders, added a  choker necklace and, lastly, topped the whole look with a porkpie hat. The porkpie has long been a men's staple piece, but has become a favorite of women as well during the last few decades. It has acquired a definite hipster quality and lends an avant garde vibe to modern looks - as demonstrated here. I love how it gives a quirky twist to Lana's modern pairing. Actually, I love this whole outfit; it's stellar!
Jojo has been wearing a complete catalogue of great dresses lately, but this cherry red wrap piece is a standout! Even though the silhouette is simple, the color gives it a huge pop. My favorite part of her look though is - you guessed it ;) - those shoes! Pumps with lace-up straps and cuff details? I am SO in! What a great choice from Jojo!
We also have more looks from the Bellas' promotion efforts for Total Bellas, including this snake-print maxi dress from Brie. A strident print like this is something of a departure for her and, while it's not my favorite, she gets huge props from me for trying something new. The choker looks fab with this v-neckline and her nude-meets-cinnamon make-up palette looks completely gorgeous on her!

3 Ways To Borrow Brie's Style

11/4/2016

Picture
Brie has fab style - definitely the kind you want to snag a bit of now and again. This Maje shirtdress is a perfect combo of grunge and chic. I'm loving the bright blue tones and the tie waist! It's a great look for school, a casual restaurant, girl time, even a chill date night. So, let's say you want to appropriate Brie's look for the day. There are several ways you could do it:
Literally: her exact dress is available at the Maje website here. Her shoe choice is the Louboutin Berlinissimo bootie which is sold out at major stores, but might be available through places Poshmark. To make matters easier, you could go with the newer Cajaboot, a platform-less variation with a similar vibe. At least, you can do that if you're willing and able to spend four figures on an outfit :).  If not, there are - fortunately :) - other options. You can also steal her look
Similarly: if you don't mind foregoing the blue, this plaid, tie-front shirtdress from BB Dakota might fit your bill. It's got the same casual, carefree vibe as Brie's. And, it won't require you to pawn anything you value :). If you neeeeeeed blue plaid in your life, but can compromise on the tie-front (or add your own belt/scarf to recreate the effect), consider this mini dess from Eleven Paris. It gives you all the great color at a much more palatable price point. Then again, maybe the black-and-blue plaid and tie-front combo is your hearts' desire and you just can't let go. In that case, you might be able to steal Brie's style
Alternatively:  This English Factory blue plaid buttondown echoes all the essential elements of Brie's dress, just in a top. Pairing it with a black A-line skirt - or leggings/skinny jeans if you're happy to stretch even a bit further afield - will give you the feel of Brie's look, but let you make it your own.
After you've picked your main piece(s), you'll need to finish the outfit with a pair of cage booties. And there are a ton of great options to consider:
The Report Alden
The Seychelles Drum Kit
The Steve Madden Cyder
The Dolce Vita Tinlie
The Nina Cypress
The Dune London Meeli
The Guess Anasia
The final step: enjoy feeling fabulous..in the most Brie-eque way!
