Barbie celebrated Swim Week Miami, including attending the SI Swimsuit party, with a triad of fab looks. Latex is having a (growing) fashion moment and Barbie hopped on the trend in a simple black dress from Meshki Boutique that garnered extra seduction thanks to the smooth sheen of its fabric. This likely reminds you of Nikki Bella’s 2016 ESPY’s look and, indeed, the dresses are quite similar, with one exception: Barbie’s is cut straight at the neckline, instead of having the sweetheart shape. Both ladies styled the piece with ankle-strap heels. While Nikki went for a bold, studded pair, Barbie chose a slimmer version. She also wore her hair in a polished high, self-wrapped ponytail, which I love: it shows of her shoulders and fits the sleek look of the dress flawlessly. Hoop earrings add a hint of trendy shine. Her next look pairs a square-neck crop top Meshki Boutique with the Multi Snake Split Trousers from Pretty Little Thing. I still can’t get behind the double front slit, but I love the riotous mutli-hued fabric -it’s def there to party! I also give props to Barbie for seamlessly mixing affordable pieces into her look. Nudist-type heels in beige finish the outfit, while a low pony gives the styling a more casual vibe. There’s nothing casual about her SI Swimsuit party dress, though! The piece, from Elie Madi via For The Stars Fashion House, features glittering sequined scroll-work set over a translucent nude base. While I am very much over the sheer trend, I can’t help but admit that this dress is a showstopper! It manages to be that just-right blend of gorgeous and sexy, and still feels like a fresh take on the overdone sheer look. I love every inch of Barbie’s beauty look, from the slightly right-of-center part (with enough volume to be more stunning than severe) to her her dewy-meets-smoky eye (I have always adored the fresh glow of the dewy look) to her sand-pink lip shade. Barbie looks utterly amazing!
After Barbie’s darkness and shine, we head into a blaze of color from Brandi. First up is a lemon yellow halter maxi from Show Me Your Mumu that must feel like wearing sunshine! I’m wild over the color and the simple silhouette is versatile, comfortable and beautiful. Can’t ask for more than that :). Brandi completed the look with multi-color slingback wedges and a Louis Vuitton bag that strikes the only darker note in the styling. I don’t mind the grounding effect, but I could see a beige tote working nicely as well. Equally praiseworthy is her next offering, a pumpkin cold-shoulder gown with ruffled sleeves. With the bright color, statement sleeves and flawless fit, it reminds me strongly of Angela Sarafyan’s look at this year’s Emmy’s. Brandi’s gown is Julea Domani x Zeena Zaki. She accented it with slender touches of gold in earrings and a bangle. The warmth of the metallic echoed that of the dress and provided just the right subtle statement, while her rose lip shade brought a perfect extra pop of color.

Sooo…apologies: I went to link this review to Lana’s newest NY Daily News gallery and realized that apparently, I never actually reviewed it. And that is completely weird because I literally remember writing it. Total strangeness! The upside for all of you is that ….ta-da…you get a major bikini ‘shoot in autumn. This should get you warmed right up! ;)
She kicks things off with a bikini of palest aqua that is strikingly similar to one she wore while playing on a floatie in the NY Daily News set. While the NYD piece has an extra split band at the bust, this one is a faux-twist style with a pretty ruched detail at the center. Her bottoms are the simplest of bikini bottoms. The subtle detail and soft color create a peaceful, relaxing vibe that’s just right for “wasting” hours at poolside under a glaring sun, while the sweetheart-halter gives it a slightly retro vibe. Lana accentuates the carefree feel with long and loose blonde locks and adds delicate sheen with a collection of slim bangles. She can’t resist a touch of modern glamour, though, which she gives us via her mirror-finish silver t-strap platform sandals. They’re the closest thing to a spoken word in an outfit of whispers. The silver contrasts with the gold bracelets for a touch of current style philosophy and completes the look with a dose of panache. They’re the only nod to flashiness, however, as her poses –paused on the pool stairs or lounging at the water’s edge- reflect a more contemplative mood: she pauses on the pool stair From there, she moves to a flirty ruffle-embellished French top, paired with matching slit-sided bottoms. The print is a bold geometric exploration of triangles, done in metallic gold on a black background. It’s sassy and sultry and, in spite of her quiet finish with ivory wedge espadrilles, has a much more intense and energetic vibe than her tranquil blue look. A selection of black and gold bangles brings in additional texture. In keeping with the glamour of this bikini, Lana kicks up the drama of her poses, working the hands-in-hair, skyward glances and dropped-eyelash smiles that make this look thrilling and beautiful. The stunning vegetation-lined lake backdrop doesn’t hurt either :). It makes a lovely variation on the traditional beach. Brie caught our attention with this look which encapsulates her trademark boho flair. It pairs an antique rose peplum blouse with flowing sleeves and blue denim. I love Brie's coordinating mauve and periwinkle-gray make-up palette. ANd, of course, who can resist her pucker face? :) A white bead necklace and a gold pendant add polish to this vintage-casual look. She kept that vibe coming with her next outfit, a lovely ivory lace off-the-shoulder dress (the Marissa from Adelyn Rae) with black trim and a black bow at the bodice. I'm especially a fan of the ruffled-and-trimmed hem; there's something so sweetly throwback about that styling! Her low pony kept the look polished, but not overly formal. I would lay good money she completed this look with either black or ivory sandals :).
Brooke was also continuing in bohemian mode, pairing a navy tank with cut-off denim shorts. The highlight for me is the way she updated the look by topping it with a woven ivory fringe vest - it gives the outfit a trendy nod and upgrades the visual interest dramatically. I confess that I could live without the addition of the headband, but I love the laidback earthiness of her caramel sandals! Naturally, I can't do anything but rave over Cathy's outfit here: it has yellow! And what an amazing piece of yellow it is :) This spot on-trend one-shoulder ruffle top is from J. Crew (and is still available (and on sale!) here). She puts into a classic pairing with blue denim. With a statement that vibrant, you don't need much else to complete a look. Cathy adds a rose lip shade and ta-da: done and stylish. That's waaaay too easy, right? Finish with neutral (or yellow! :) I just had to get that in) heels or flats. We got a glimpse of Emma at the Mae Young Classic in a sheer-and-pieced crop top set above a black brassiere and mulberry pants. I'm not generally a fan of bra-baring styles, but I like the way it works here. The look comes off youthful and modern and it works on Emma. She also gets props for her choice of pants. The unusual and beautiful color makes this ensemble much more interesting. It helps her OTK boots to really stand out as well. This is a great look from Emma - it has a fierce, cool-girl vibe without feeling either too fussy or too nonchalant. Brie: A quartet of Divas attended this year’s ESPY awards and we saw quite the gamut of fashion! Lana kicked things off with a sheer knit halter-neck dress (from House of CB) which sported demure slits on each side. The crux of the look is the semi-transparent nature of the dress, which allows her strapless balconette bra and high-waisted briefs to create a shadow-silhouette beneath. While I love the clean, minimalist drama of the cutaway halter, I would infinitely prefer if this piece was lined. Unfortunately, doing so would make an already fairly laidback piece even more casual -too casual , really, for a red carpet event, even a more relaxed one such as this. Although I can’t come to a successful resolution of that conundrum, I appreciate the appropriateness of the sporty vibe of the piece for this event. Lana brought the fanciness up tremendously with her excellent choices of accessories: shoulder-grazing star earrings (so amazing!!), and a sprinkling of gold and crystal rings (all from Y2K Jewelers) and fabulous chain-embellished strappy sandals (the Hypnotize from Lola Shoetique). I’m definitely on board for the way the touches of shine and sparkle elevate this look! I also love the subtlety of her make-up palette; the amber, clay and taupe tones enhance her beauty without getting in the way of her outfit. And after all the bright lips we’ve seen all summer, this pastel golden rose is a nice change.
Next up was Maryse who took a much more glamorous approach (such a surprise, right? ;)) in this glittering Abyss By Abby gown. The plunging neckline and spaghetti-strap piece was a familiar silhouette for Maryse; while we’ve seen it before it also happens to be one that works flawlessly for her. I could have done without the second front slit, but I’m almost reconciled to that by the glorious bittersweet color of the gown. It’s uncommon and stunning. Sizeable crystal earrings bring in an additional dose of drama, while strappy beige-adobe Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandals and a coordinating Louboutin envelope clutch complete the look. I love how her chocolate smoky eye echoes the warmth of her gown’s color. I love even more that she styled this look herself. Brava, Maryse! I can’t help but admire ladies who the guts and the fashion sense to do that, especially because the look then becomes a little extra authentic in that there’s no one between the fashion and the wearer to dilute their personal style sensibilities. Kim: Red carpets are always a fashion-lovers dream. You can see such a mix of fashion choices, and the 2017 ESPY Awards were the perfect example of that. From sleek dresses to sport-like looks, the WWE Superstars brought it all to the table this year. First up, I have to talk about my girl Nikki Bella. She went in a totally different direction than previous years at the ESPY's. Sporting a white crop top (from Missguided) with black trim and zipper detail, black flowy pants with white stripes (from Adidas x Stella McCartney), this is a very street/tomboy inspired look. The waistband of her Birdiebee underwear is clearly visible, which to some may be a fashion no-no. But for me, I'm giving it a pass, mostly because it's her and Brie's own fashion line. You can't blame her for wanting to show it off a little. Also, oh freaking amazing is her clutch. I want it! Oggh..how is it possible to look so casual and so chic at the same time?! Barbie slayed in this set from Kyna Collection that pairs wide-leg drawstring pants and a double-breasted duster-length jacket. She layered a cropped beige top below for a perfect dose of color. I'm head-over-heels for the way this outfit, despite doubtless being super-comfortable and laidback, also retains plenty of sophistication. These are not your everyday drawstring pants! And the ultra-long jacket makes a huge, stylish statement. It's fab from stem to stern! Next, she subtly got her USA on with this vintage-tinged polka dot bikini (this is the only time I'm ever grateful for something not being yellow!) from Frankie's Bikinis. I love that it's Fourth Of July appropriate without being the expected stars-and-stripes iteration. The red trim brings a spark to the set, as well as a modern touch that keeps it fresh and current. With her flowing blonde hair, sunnies and a drink her hand, Barbie is the picture of a flawless, dreamed-about summer day! From there, she heads into punk territory with this sweatshirt dress from Mistress Rocks. The length of this piece makes it quite versatile. For summer it works just as Barbie has styled it: as a mini dress, paired with strappy sandal-booties and a chain-handled bag that enhances the punk vibe. For transitional days, add fishnet stockings and motorcycle boots to head even further down Avenue Punk. For winter, it metamorphosizes easily into a tunic: style it with leggings and OTK boots...and possibly a thermal underneath ;). It gets all fierce-grunge when Barbie layers a House of CB scoopneck cami and cut-off jean shorts below an H & M oversize jacket. Barbie has become quite fond of this mid-length style topper this year; we've seen her use it several times with great effect, adding a fun shot of panache to whatever look she incorporates it in. An Hermes belt and Guess peeptoe OTK boots round off this look with a hint of flash and a big dose of attitude. She got serious about Western-wear for a Dierks Bentley concert, going with fringed beige knee-high boots, which completed a cropped white tank and cut-off white jean shorts combination. She didn't leave out the fierce though: she topped the ensemble with a strappy-sleeved jacket from Hot Miami Styles (which reminds me of the sleeves of this jacket of Sasha's). It brings a definite urban, trendy vibe to a classic Americana look.
McKenzie tried out a denim-on-denim look, variously known as a Canadian tuxedo and Texas tuxedo (seems like a lot of places claim the pairing! ;)). She noted on her IG that the look was inspired by Guess and I can see it! It would totally work as one of their campaign snaps. She pairs high-waisted blue denim shorts with a coordinating tied-high button-down that lets just a hint of brassiere peek through. For a real life look, I’d probably swap the bra for a bandeau, cropped tank or bustier, but for a Guess ad, I’ll let it slide ;). It’s also worth noting that denim-on-denim is remaining an important trend this fall.
This look from Renee strikes me as a quintessential example of her style: it’s offbeat, laidback and unexpected. She pairs a half-tucked sleeveless graphic tee with high-waisted leather pleated shorts and rounds off the ensemble with suede peeptoe booties. The textural play here – leather, suede, knit – is fantastic and the whole styling has this enviable urban-chic vibe that I’m wild over. Her half-updo adds a softer touch which works nicely. Sasha explored a similar vibe at the BET Experience as she, too, chose leather shorts to pair with a hanf-tucked top. The Boss went with a drapey white cami (from Fashion Nova) instead of the sleeveless tee for a more polished, but still casual, effect. Strappy sandals brought just the right dose of fierce to the look, keeping it from being bland, while a minimalist choker tied everything together nicely. I also love Sasha’s incorporation of her trademark “Legit” and “Boss” statement rings: they bring panache and Banks-ian attitude to the ensemble. Sasha slays a more formal look for her appearance at the BET Awards in an emerald lace dress by Willfredo Gerardo. The super-size lace pattern set on a mesh background has a wonderful contemporary quality, while still retaining its beauty. It’s sexy, but not crassly so. An added bonus is how stunning the color is with her plum hair shade! She brings in hints of metallic glam via her gold sandals. Nude or beige would have been more expected, but I like that she chose to do something different. This is one of the simpler looks we’ve seen from Eva Marie: she pairs a white button down top with destroyed blue denim. I love the way she’s styled her top by layering it over a bodysuit, instead of the more expected semi-sheer shirt over bra look. This keeps the modernity, but adds class and sophistication, especially since Eva left only the top two buttons of her blouse undone, letting the sexy lacing details of her bodysuit be subtext rather than a focal point. The styling is a fantastic way to transition the sultry summer bodysuit+jeans look to fall, as well as a wonderful way to make use of the fact that so many white shirts today are at the very least semi-transparent (which is a pet peeve of mine that I won’t rant about now ;)). Eva uses fierce sandals to complete this look with panache. She ramps up the seduction with her next ensemble, an off-the-shoulder graphic tee with a fab biker-punk vibe with gray destroyed denim and strappy black sandals. Her shoe choice elevates this cool look dramatically. For fall, the sandals could be swapped for pointy ankle boots. If this floral bikini looks familiar, it’s because we’ve also seen Emma wear it. The piece (now sold out) was offered through Eva’s NEM line. I love it just as much on Eva as I did on Emma.
I also love this pale lemon sundress on Gail! How incredibly pretty is this piece? Not only is there the gorgeous color, there is the feminine sweetheart neckline, fit-and-flare shape and enchanting lace hem. Everything about this dress is lighthearted and joyful. She paired it with beige espadrilles for a look that is quintessentially summer. She added a touch of flash with her hoop earrings, but her best accessory may be that glass of white wine ;). (unless it’s champagne, in which case it’s def her best accessory!). |
